Foster and Farry announce US Revel Systems investment creating 89 jobs

Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Arlene Foster and Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry have announced US company Revel Systems is to establish a European sales and support centre in Belfast, employing 89 people.

Based in San Francisco, California, Revel Systems is a software company that has developed a highly successful feature-rich iPad point of sale (POS) solution for hospitality and retail establishments of all sizes, from small shops to multinational chains.

Announcing the investment the Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Arlene Foster said: “I am delighted that Revel System’s have decided to open their European headquarters here in Belfast. Their decision to establish this centre in Northern Ireland is based on the many advantages that this region has to offer international companies. High speed, cost-effective connectivity, easy access to the Great Britain and European markets, a committed and skilled workforce and the comprehensive support offered by government have attracted a succession of global firms to these shores in the past year, creating thousands of jobs.

“The 89 jobs being created by this investment will pay above the Northern Ireland private sector median and offer excellent employment opportunities in sales, technical support and logistics. They will also develop electronic POS expertise adding a further dimension to our already strong IT credentials.

“I had the pleasure of meeting Revel’s Chief of Staff in June this year while visiting the west coast of America. It is wonderful to now see that from that initial meeting in Palo Alto Revel has now chosen to locate its European headquarters here in Belfast.”

Invest Northern Ireland has offered £445,000 of support for the jobs. The Department for Employment and Learning has also offered £245,000 of training support through its Assured Skills programme.

Speaking at the announcement Employment and Learning Minister Dr Farry said: “I am pleased that the support my Department offers, through the Assured Skills programme, has contributed to this substantial new investment in Northern Ireland by Revel Systems. It is encouraging that the skills levels in Northern Ireland are such that we are attracting innovative and rapidly expanding companies, such as Revel Systems. A highly skilled labour force is essential to support business growth and expansion, and the funding will ensure that Revel Systems has the support necessary for training initiatives to develop the skills required for these new roles.

“I met with Revel at the offices in San Francisco, in October, to talk them through our skills offer and I am delighted to announce that the Revel Sales Academy will be launched in the New Year providing participants with the core skills to develop exciting sales careers with Revel Systems. The Academy model is a tried and trusted process allowing the participant to learn the type of work they will be undertaking, but also allowing for the employer to get an insight into their potential employees.”

Commenting on the decision to locate in Belfast, Chris Ciabarra, Co-founder and CTO of Revel Systems, said: “Our system empowers merchants, helping them to thrive and grow, and we are excited about the market opportunity in Europe. This new centre will facilitate our entry into the UK and European markets, which is part of our growth strategy.

“Revel’s mission is to support entrepreneurs and give businesses the tools they need to succeed. We are excited to help European merchants take their businesses to the next level. We are looking for dynamic employees with real entrepreneurial spirit that can continually look for new creative solutions to meet customer needs. I’m confident that we’ll find them in Northern Ireland.”
